Wizard101 Best Level 130 Life Gear

What’s the best Life gear at max level (currently level 130)?  We’ve seen this question many times, so we’ve provided our recommendations about the best Life gear below, in a format to help you compare options.

We’ll take a moment to review our criteria first, since the “best” life gear depends on your role and objectives.

Looking for the best gear for other schools?

Our Criteria

We consider the gear listed below the best max level life gear if your wizard is:

  • Questing by yourself (solo)
  • Questing in a group & playing the role of a hitter, or
  • Playing PvP in an offensive or traditional role

If you are questing in a group and playing a support role (i.e., buffing the wizard that is going to hit and/or healing) or if you are playing a very defensive PvP strategy, we assume you are more interested in global resist and outgoing healing.  We suggest that you check out Cody’s guide on gear with the best outgoing healing, as it includes several high-resist life gear options as well.

There are three types of recommendations, depending on your focus:

1. Damage Focus

Typically used against opponents with high block, such as bosses.

  • Primary objective is to maximize damage
  • Secondary objectives are power pips, accuracy and pierce

2. Critical Focus

Typically used against opponents with low block, such as mobs.  Some PvP builds focus on high critical as well.

  • Primary objective is critical
  • Secondary objectives are damage, power pips and accuracy

3. Balanced

Typically used in PvP or against bosses that hit hard (e.g., Storm Titan anyone?):

  • Primary objective is to provide decent damage and several helpful stats, including universal resist, power pips, accuracy, pierce and important jewel sockets
  • Many balanced items contain some critical, although it’s typically not a “critical” objective (pun intended)

      Hey just noticed that the Amulet Jewel of the Web Level 99 is retired 🙂 Wizards that haven’t acquired that wand will not be able to use that recommend balance . So that will need to be changed to another recommend.

      Hi, the current 100% Critical and Max Damage build is incorrect. You can obtain 137% Damage w/ 839 Critical with the following: Dragoon’s Vibrant Helm, Ornate Light Brigade Armor, Dragoon’s Vibrant Boots, Admiral’s Boarding Hook, The Dark Woman’s Dagger w/ 2x 18 critical jewels, Spirit of Darkmoor’s Jewel, Dragoon’s Vibrant Ring w/ 1x 18 Critical Jewel, Lively Paradox Deck, Life Ghulture Mount and a pet with Life Striker, Life Assailant, Critical Striker, Critical Hitter, Life Bringer and Life giver.

        Actually with the Sinister Harlequin Shoes you can get 138% damage with the same 839 critical rating using everything else in the aforementioned build.

      Hey I use life and ever since I’ve been bombarded by people begging me to heal them I’ve decided to turn my life into a storm so to speak damage wise, so I think this is very helpful. I’ve been looking to have some Pierce but have as much damage as possible.

      Hey if you want good damage and critical i would go with paradox hat, the ornate brigade armor, paradox boots, paradox ring, the dark woman athame, the jewel of the shadow web, and the paradox ring and deck, and the sinbad wand, if you combine all of this with the best jewels and the life ghulture mount you will have 137 damage, and around 800 critical which is about 90%, 25% resist, 100% power pips, 6% pierce, i would say this is one of the most balanced sets you can get.

        This is a good setup, but is now superseded by the new dragoon gear. Swap the paradox for the dragoon hat, boots and ring (plus a life ghulture and a triple/triple pet) and you can achieve 143 damage with 96 critical. Bonus? The new gear also boosts resist and pierce, taking them to 33 and 11 respectively.

          Thanks for the feedback. I reworked the sample build section to show suggest pieces in a build vs highest possible ones. Agree with you that the Dragoon gear can provide better overall stats, especially with new gear bonuses in test that should be going live sometime soon (but for the 100% critical and max damage, constraint is to stay at 100% critical).

        We included the Lively Paradox Ring instead of the Mimic one (Mithraya Vivid Seal) since it’s got 8 more critical and better overall healing (17% in & 17% out vs only 20% in). Felt like this offsets the tradeoffs (48 less mana and 90 less health — assuming you have a health tear jewel in the Mimic one), so didn’t mention it.

        If you think it’s helpful to include the Mimic one in the “Other Rings of Interest” LMK and will add.

      Hiya! Could I make a suggestion for the boots section of the guide? It notes the Silent Knight’s Snowboots as the highest critical, but the Spooky Carnival Boots (130) have higher critical by 2 (123 vs 121).       For the 100% Critical Build I would use Ornate Light Brigade Armor instead of Glorious Avenger’s Armor and list it as one of the 2 recommended instead of alternative because Life has enough accuracy

        Thx for the input. The intent of the critical build is to show the max damage you can get while maintaining 100% critical. Agree with you that the Ornate Light Brigade Armor (or Darkmoor or Rattlebones) is usually a better choice given the other stats (especially the resist).
