Wizard101 Best Level 130 Ice Gear

Last updated 6/13/2020 (updated Road Warrior wand to level 130)

What’s the best gear for a max level Ice Wizard (currently level 130)?  We’ve seen this question many times, so we’ve provided our recommendations below, in a format to help you compare options.

We’ll take a moment to review our criteria first, since the “best” gear depends on your role and objectives.

Our Criteria

We consider the gear listed below the best for a max level Ice Wizard if you are:

  • Questing by yourself (solo)
  • Questing in a group & playing the role of a hitter, or
  • Playing PvP in an offensive or traditional role

If you are questing in a group and playing a support role (i.e., buffing the wizard that is going to hit and/or healing) or if you are playing a very defensive PvP strategy, we assume you are more interested in global resist and outgoing healing.  We suggest that you check out Cody’s guide on gear with the best outgoing healing, as it includes several high-resist gear options as well.

There are three types of recommendations, depending on your focus:

1. Damage Focus

Typically used against opponents with high block, such as bosses.

  • Primary objective is to maximize damage
  • Secondary objectives are power pips, accuracy and pierce

2. Critical Focus

Typically used against opponents with low block, such as mobs.  Some PvP builds focus on high critical as well.

  • Primary objective is critical
  • Secondary objectives are damage, power pips and accuracy

3. Balanced

Typically used in PvP or against bosses that hit hard (e.g., Storm Titan anyone?):

  • Primary objective is to provide decent damage and several helpful stats, including universal resist, power pips, accuracy, pierce and important jewel sockets
  • Many balanced items contain some critical, although it’s typically not a “critical” objective (pun intended)

Gear Set Bonuses

Gear set bonuses provide stats in addition to whatever stats the gear provides, based on how many pieces of that set you’re wearing.  We list relevant bonuses here so you can consider them when selecting gear for your Wizard.

  • Since this still has yet to get an update, I found a guide online that made some gear suggestions, so I figured that some people may appreciate this set I use on my ice to get to 180% damage while maintaining 100% accuracy and power pip chance. The best part is that this is absolutely obtainable F2P without spending any crowns.

Crystalline Aeon Helm (31 damage and 4 accuracy)
Eternal Crystalline Cape (8 power pip chance, 7 accuracy and 24 damage)
Delightful/Uber Wonderneer Boots (9 power pip chance and 30 damage). It’s worth noting that these are required in this current setup in order to reach 100% power pip chance. The malevolent ice boots do give more damage, but it has only 8% power pip chance, which takes you down to 99%. For the sake of discussion, you could use those boots if you had an armored skeleton pet (always has a +1 power pip chance at base) which would allow you to use those boots.
Any pet with 5 damage talents to improve ice’s damage as well as a selfish talent, AKA a quint pet. A triple double works as well, although it is worth noting that with this current setup, I get 47% resist to all schools. A TD pet would lose 8 damage but take you to 64 resist to all schools. Both work well.
Crystalline Aeon Sword (25 ice damage).
Crystalline Aeon Athame (15% power pip chance and 19 ice damage, I also use a +16 accuracy jewel and 2 +6 pierce jewels)
Amulet of Neverwhere (Shane amulet) (4 pierce)
Crystalline Aeon Ring (18 power pip chance and 16 ice damage, I also use a +6 pierce jewel.
Deck: Any with a triangle slot (I use the supreme freezer deck from Lemuria with a +10% power pip jewel)
Mount: Battle Havox. This one is controversial because although it does use a mount from a bundle, it’s also worth noting that you can use the Battle Narwhal which is obtainable through fishing. Both of these give +2 damage to all schools.

With this setup, I get 180 ice damage with 47% universal resist to all schools. You can swap out the quint pet with a triple double to get 172 damage and 64 resist to all schools. Some people will probably be quick to point out raid gear, but I don’t count it as raids are a feature that aren’t as easily accessible to all players as they are others. I also intentionally left out deckathalon decks as those ban the use of any regular spells. You certainly could use them if you’d like though, and doing so would definitely increase your damage further.

It is certainly worth noting that other options exist as well with paid gear like crowns shop gear and bundles to increase your damage further. Banning mentioning temporary items such as elixirs or companions (like Dyvim), other options include items like the Royal Fusilier’s Dress Coat (+26 damage) as well as the Sweetish Chef boots (+34 damage) with a set of 3 items (pet and mount) to get an additional 4% damage. This would be enough to get you to 190% damage. You could use an amulet that gives damage like mentioned in the article. That would get you to 192% damage if you wish. Sadly, I couldn’t find a setup to get a full set of Aeon gear to work while still giving full power pip chance and accuracy. If you were willing to sacrifice one of those, you’d be able to increase your damage further using other gear.

And there are many many other ways you can make gear sets work. Someone on Reddit posted a list of gear showing you your options, which I’ll link in my username. I just figured that someone looking through this article in 2022 or 2023 might be interested in knowing about this

    • Well, they updated the Aeon gear in February since then. All Aeon gear now gives power pip chance which wasn’t available before. You can now wear a full set of Aeon, although you will only get 98% power pip chance. I’d recommend switching out the Aeon ice robe with an eternal one, but you can also use other options. In my case, I’m using the Royal Fusilier Dress Coat for 26 damage, but the Eternal robe works as well with only a 2% damage loss if you want to go F2P (note that the Aeon and Eternal robes both give the same amount of damage). Also I’m using the Darkmoor Shane von Shane amulet for the 4 pierce. With this new setup, I have 189% damage, perfect power pips (no jewels required), perfect accuracy (you’ll need at least a 12% ice accuracy jewel to never fizzle shadow enhanced spells like Snowball Barrage), 43 pierce. Sadly though, the obvious downside is that resist is quite limited, I only have 28 as this is absolutely designed in mind with being a glass cannon set. It can be increased further with other options, such as using a damage increasing amulet (increasing to 191), using the Frillasaur and Bronto mount gear set (196) as well as the robe from raids (200), and an honorary mention to the deckathalon deck pushing you all the way to 210. It’s worth noting that KI has effectively removed the damage cap (really they just raised it very high to like 220), so you no longer get punished for going for all out offense by hitting the (quite low) 150 curve. All of this is possible while still having 100% power pip and accuracy as well, making it viable for many purposes and you still have a free triangle slot if you are using a triangle deck that you could use for about anything you want like a Morganthe jewel, blades, even more accuracy, etc.

Of course, this can be changed. You’ll have resist in the 40s if you use the Eternal robe and in the 60s if you use a triple double pet for slightly less damage. You can also use the Eternal amulet to reach the 70s as well, although you’d be sacrificing pierce, but you’d still have a very respectable amount of damage and resist at the same time.

      • Edit: I have made an error. It should actually be 208%, not 210, which was pointed out on Reddit. My mistake came from the fact that I use the battle havox for extra damage, but I forgot to take it off before taking the mount set bonus into consideration, throwing it off by 2%. Still though, it’s quite insane that ice can reach that high.

  • The spring update has heavily nerfed new Morganthe amulets and athames, so I don’t even think that they could be considered a recommendation on anything. Additionally, the merciless athames have been buffed, so newer players may want to farm for it. I’m not sure how you plan on handling this, as any previous Morganthe athames and amulets will remain intact, but anything obtained after the spring update will be considerably worse. For example, the storm Morganthe amulet give 23 critical block, 120 health, 2 resist, galvanic field and a fire shield, that’s it. The pierce went straight out the window, same for the blades.

  • I’ve noticed that you can’t get max accuracy and max power pip using dragoon helm, boots and ring. The dragoon ring gives no PP chance, so I think the best gear is probably dragoon helm, boot and Amulet, with the “band of the chilling light” ring. Unless you want about 95%~ PP chance or about 5% chance to fizzle (depending on which triangle jewels you use).

    • This is correct. I have proposed a setup on Reddit for a large amount of damage while still having a 100% power pip chance and max accuracy at the same time.

I’ll link the subreddit post so you can see what I have proposed.

  • So here’s the set that a friend of mine uses for her highest damage, although some parts of it can be improved.

Hat: Sweetish Chef Hat (28% damage)
Robe: Royal Fusilier’s Dress Coat (26%)
    Boots: Sweetish Chef Clogs (34%)
Pet: Marshfellow with max stats (33%)
Mount: (She doesn’t have this yet, but if she did) Ice Ghulture (3%)
    Wand: Cosmographers’s Orrery Staff (21%)
    Athame: Shadow Spider’s Sting (17%)
Amulet: Torc of the Ravenous Teeth (2%)
    Ring: Executive Cryo Ring (15%)
Deck: (She doesn’t have this yet, but if she did) Bumbler’s Sleetfall Pack (1%)
    Set bonus: 4% damage.

Her current damage is 181%. 185 if she had the ghulture and deck. I can calculate 194% being possible for an ice if we were to include the tier 10 deckathalon deck, but you can note it on the website as 185% if the deckathalon deck doesn’t count.

  • Are you planning on getting rid of the max damage and 100% critical tab? Critical no longer is a percentage in the game anymore, so it’s not really possible to test for 100% critical.

  • I would recommend adding the “Delightful Wonderneer Rope” from Karamelle in the amulet section, it’s basically an upgraded dragoons icy charm. 8% resist over 6% and it gives an already protected 45% ice blade, which is really good. Also an extra square socket for what it’s worth.

    • I mean, I’m not sure that I would entirely say upgraded, as Karamelle gear doesn’t have any set bonuses (which dragoon gear does), but you are correct about it giving 2% more resistance. They do have quite a bit of updating to do regardless.

  • Please update this to lvl 140

    • Karamelle gear ain’t that good imo

      • Doesn’t matter, there are some things worth adding. Like the fact that the new executive rings give a lot of damage, those are enough to replace the entries for the highest damage, making even the PVP rings obsolete for those chasing after max damage. Same for the 140 amulets, some of them give as much as 8% universal resistance.

  • The highest damage robe is technically the Thundering Ice Outfit (http://www.wizard101central.com/wiki/Recipe:Thundering_Ice_Outfit) which gives a massive 32 ice damage

    • The same recipe vendor gives other robe recipes like 29 damage robe for life or death, which are probably higher than whats posted on the other guides.

    • And using primeval set wand and pet, the damage can go up by 3 more for the max damage build, in addition to the 6 from the aforementioned robe.

      • Could you clarify? Looks to me like you’d only gain 1 damage by using the Primeval Set wand and pet. Will plan on updating after fall test realm.

    • Agree with you that the robe you mention technically has the highest damage. Unfortunately it can only be worn by Storm wizards.

  • Just pointing out a typo, where you said “Pet (max stats): With Ice-Dealer, Ice-Giver, Pain-Giver, Ice Assailant, Ice Striker, Critical Striker (58 Ice Critical; 31 Universal Critical; 16% Ice Damage, 6% Universal *Damge*)”, I think you meant damage, not damge. That’s all, I just wanted to let you know

    • Fixed. Many thanks!

  • I wanted to mention that the Woodland Hunter Tuke from the Yule Logger Pack is pretty good for ice damage and great for critical! Dragoon and Woodland have the same damage but Woodland has more critical. Thanks for the guide!

  • Icy paradox, Ice ghulture, Triple crit triple damage pet, dragoon’s ring, shane amulet, yevgeny athame, sinbad wand, dragoon boots, charred nirini robe, dragoon helm let’s you have 142 damage and max critical.

    • Hello,
When I tried using that gear to check critical and damage, even after set bonus, top jewels, and a 2.0 pet, i got 657 critical and 124 damage. If I were to replace the charred nirini robe with the Brigade’s robe, I’d get 737 critical, which is about a hundred short, and 140 damage. I used this gear to get that number. Did you do something different than me?
      Dragoon Ice hat
Brigade robe (nirini robe is fire/death)
      Dragoon Boots
      triple triple pet
      Sky Captain’s boarding hook- Sinbad
Wolf’s lancet of shivers with two 14 critical jewels
      Amulet of Neverwhere- Shane
Dragoon Ice ring with 14 critical jewel
      Icy Paradox Deck

  • Thank you for working so hard on putting this together. I just started playing again after a long absence and your guides have been super helpful.

    • Thank you, appreciate the feedback!

  • Or for the Critical build, you could use Monarch’s Diadem & Shard Warrior’s Hammer

  • I’m very sure that the Sky Captain’s Boarding Hook cannot be crafted from Ignus, could you please update that?

    • Will do.

  • Hi guys! 🙂 I’ve been messing around with the sample build for max damage and critical and I noticed that swapping the Icy Paradox Conical for the Monarch’s Diadem produces the same stats, but allows for use of the Tormentor’s Bonerattler instead of the Polarian Pickaxe (the Bonerattler is more readily available, at least at the time, than the Pickaxe). Thanks much again for your excellent guides! 🙂

    • Thanks — that’s a really helpful note if someone can’t locate the Polarian Explorer’s Bundle. I was also going to mention the could use the Shard Warrior’s Hammer, but looks like that Bundle has been retired (for now at least). Sigh…
I’ll make a note in the sample build.

      • An alternative amulet for Orlov’s Icesheet Charm is the Cabalist Amulet of Vengeance. It offers one less resist and square jewel, but has decent health and ice pip conversion.

  • How come Bonesmasher Robe of Cold is an alternative, it’s better than Armor of the Cold Hearted

    • We listed the Tenni’syn robe since it’s got higher health/pips/damage/critical and the Darkmoor one if you needed more accuracy in your build. They all are pretty darn similar and good choices.

  • I love it 🙂 I can’t wait to see the ones like Death and Fire, I need those to document them for personal use for me and my friends.

  • I feel like the Nimbari Hoard Pack boots would be a better option for ice wizards because it comes with more resist and lots of damage.

    • Agree with you that they are good. Seems like there are good options (Nimbari, Purrizan, also the Silent Knight’s Snowboots are good as well).

  • I feel like a really good option for a balanced wand, that isn’t listed here, is the lvl 130 snowdrifter’s staff. It only gives universal stats and has 5% pierce, 12% damage, 62 critical, 180 pip conversion and it can may-cast moon frostbite (which is aoe).

Sincerely, a lvl 130 try hard thaimaturge.

    • Thank you for the input! We personally thought that the Witch Hunter’s Arbalest was a more viable option given the slightly higher critical, pierce, and pip conversion. It’s nice to meet a fellow try hard Thaumaturge though and I hope you have a wonderful day.

  • can’t wait to see balance/death

  • Thanks for your feedback. Agree with you that the Lydia boots and With Hunter’s Albalest can be good choices as well and see why you would use them. I added a comment that the PvP build is an example. If several people mention that they use those items we may update the sample build in the future.

  • I personally do not agree with the recommended PvP gear. I dont know why so many people prefer the ghulture pack boots over the lydia boots. It is not possible to achieve both 100 pip and 25 accuracy with the ghulture boots, only one or the other. The setup I would recommend is-
    Krokopatra hat
    Bonesmasher robe
    Lydia boots
Either a triple ward pet, or a pet with double resist and some damage
    Witch hunters arbalest
    Darkmoor athame
    Shane amulet
    Duelist ring
    Omen deck/darkmoor crafted deck
This setup, with the right jewels, gives
    ~8,100 hp at 125, ~8,300 hp at 130
    86 damage
    63 resist, 69 to ice
    26 accuracy
    almost 500 critical
block is <100, but block isnt important anymore
36 pierce, 38 with pierce mount
    perfect pip chance.
Keep in mind that those stats are without damage or ward talents on a pet. A triple ward pet with 10 dealer would give 96 damage with 79 ward resist. A triple damage double resist pet with max stat and mighty jewel would make the stats 111 damage and 65 resist.
This setup is much more balanced than a setup using the ghulture boots and the crafted wand. Just my two cents.
