Novus Main Quest Line

wizard101 main quest line spiral

This guide is meant as a tool to follow your progress and keep an eye on the Novus Quest Line. It can also explain when a cheating boss is coming up.

I list the quests you have to do in a certain area. The areas are listed in the order you should do them in (unless otherwise specified). The area is not always one hundred percent correct, as certain quests can require you to run back and forth between areas to talk to people. To simplify matters, I have not listed this kind of running; the quest will say “talk” but not where the NPC is located. Also, if there is only one quest in an area, I will not mention the area separately. Located between brackets are the different parts of each quest, as many quests require you to do multiple things.

I have divided the quests in the Spiral into the following groups:

  • Talk: Quests that require an interaction with an NPC.
  • Mob: Quests that require the defeat of regular monsters.
  • Elite: Quests that require the defeat of an elite creature.
  • D&C: Quests that require the collection of something from certain monsters (Defeat and Collect).
  • Boss: Quests that require the defeat of a boss. Elite monsters are not counted as bosses.
  • Minor Cheat: Quests that require defeating a boss that cheats a little (these cheats can generally be ignored).
  • Cheat: Quests that require the defeat of a cheating boss (these cheats will hinder normal gameplay somewhat).
  • Major Cheat: Quests the require the defeat of a cheating boss (these cheats will hinder normal gameplay significantly).
  • Solo: Quests you need to do alone.
  • Instance: Quests that require the completion of a place behind a sigil with at least 2 battles.
  • Interact: Quests that require interaction with a certain object.
  • Explore: Quests that just require you to run towards a certain area, NPC or item.
  • Collect: Quests that require you to collect multiple items from areas.
  • Photomancy: Quests that require you to take a picture of an object using Photomancy.
  • Play as Your Pet: Quests that require you to utilize the Play as Your Pet feature.
  • Investigate: Quests that require you to search and collect for clues.

Dakota TitanHeart

Dakota's been playing Wizard101 for well over ten years now. He's seen a lot of change in the game, and loves to check everything out on his trusty Storm and Death. When an update comes out, expect to see him running around to create strategies and discover secrets. While he's more of a PvE player, Dakota isn't new to PvP, formerly a tournament PvPer. Nowadays, he spends his days playing Beastmoon and working on his fire wizard.

Jennifer SoulStone

A Wizard101 player since 2010, Jennifer is a true completionist at heart. Since returning to the game in 2020, she has completed every quest, and is aiming to earn every badge. If there is something to collect, Jennifer is collecting it - including spells, pets, fish and music scrolls! You will usually find her participating in Beastmoon and Deckathalon, hunting down obscure badges, or helping others through the Team Up kiosk!

  • You missed an instance dungeon quests called War is Well. It’s is a dungeon quest of The Deepest Circle Of Well. Bringing a total of 89 main quests including dungeon quests in Novus.

  • Need to make it easier to get crowns and more of them at a time

  • I think 54 should be a major cheat instead of minor. Both the bosses cast double spells each turn, one of which being able to cast a medusa for a 2-turn stun and immediately a follow-up efreet, and they also summon minions. This is borderline unsolo-able and definitely isn’t “minor”

    • Updated to cheat. Don’t think it merits a major cheat as it isn’t something that sets you out of your way too much.

    • its a major cheat but still soloable, I solo’d it as a life

  • Quest 19 is 2 Elite battles after the major cheat.

    • Thanks for the correction!

  • the music was out of this world

  • do you have a guide for the finale boss

  • You should really change Basil on quest 50 to a major cheat, the plagues and shields make soloing it VERY difficult

  • Brigands and Beasties – Basil is NOT a minor cheat. You cannot blade, feint or trap. If his minion casts a balance blade it triggers a cheat. You have to completely change your gameplay in order to defeat Basil, if you have to change your gameplay it is a major cheat.

  • Thanks everyone for your comments, this post is now updated.

  • I would change Captain Argento in quest 64 “On The Brink!” to a ‘minor cheat’ or just ‘cheat’. His cheats cause very little change to basic strategies. All he does is cast a 75% shield when hit, and occasionally casts an Abominable Weaver or Freeze Ray

  • Quest 54: quake charmer additional cheat uses earthquake after casting wand spell

    • On quest 54 “Dupli-Qhat”, the quake charmer and copy qhat both cheat. So it is a double cheat boss, and it is really a flee and come back type of battle. Copy Qhat has her old cheat where she summons a minion one time of either elemental or spiritual variety. However, she also has “Feel the curse of Daisen” where she will cast two spells in one hit turn.
      Her spells are as follows:
      Snow serpent- Troll
      Blizzard- Humongofrog
      Frost Giant- Orthrus
      Snow Angel- Medusa
      Abominable Weaver- Mystic Colossus
Freeze Ray- Barbarian’s Saga on all wizards

The quake charmer also has his old cheat “Back to the basics” where he casts earthquake randomly.
However, he also has a new cheat “This ain’t natural” and he will cast two spells in one hit turn.
      Troll- Fire Elf
      Stone Colossus-Helephant
      Mystic Colossus- Fire from above
      Orthrus-Fire Dragon
      Medusa-Efreet

These two bosses do not have cheats for blades, traps, or fleeing and coming back, so you either need a really good life friend, a great tank, or good strategy.

  • Ponce upon a time is a cheat boss

  • On 19, Ponce has cheats in the live realm. Granted, if you alpha strike, it’s not going to affect you much, since his confusion doesn’t activate until like round 3. It’s still worth mentioning though. Could you please look into this? Thank you 🙂

  • Quest 54 the double boss fight is a double cheat double casting attacks and summoning minions

  • In the ‘Gold Meddlers” instance, the boss for the dungeon “Golden Hoard Captain” has a minor cheat. Its seems to be a minor cheat cast where the boss will interrupt with a random school spell in a few round intervals, including damaging and healing spells.
