Picking the Locks – Ixcax CursedWing

The summer 2022 update began a massive change in Wizard101’s skeleton key bosses. Wooden and stone keys are being phased out and gold keys will be the primary way to unlock all the new key bosses. Gold keys will mainly be found through events and as drops from existing key bosses. The update has introduced 10 new key bosses. Four of these are brand new, while the other six are old key bosses revamped with a higher difficulty. One of the the revamped bosses was the Azteca boss, Ixcax CursedWing who has recieved a new location and new drops!

Location

Ixcax CursedWing can be found in Three Points past the entrance to the Cenote. He is no longer located in the Black Sun Pyramid.

What to Expect

Ixcax will spawn with three death minions. At max level they will have 7,440 health each. You will want to kill these minions quickly as the spells they mostly use are Winter Moon and Death Crow which will place a beguile on the wizard. Despite having 2 shadow pip slots, the boss did not seem to be using any shadow pip hits while I was testing. Below is the max level version of the boss. The lower level versions of the fight play out the same just with lower health, resist, pierce, and damage.

Tier 4 – Levels 110+ – Ixcax is Rank 20 and has 21,950 health. The minions are Rank 19 and have 7,440 health.
Tier 3 – Levels 96-109 – Ixcax is Rank 14 and has 19,200 health. The minions are Rank 13 and have 4,960 health.
Tier 2 – Levels 51-95 – Ixcax is Rank 13 and has 19,200 health. The minions are Rank 12 and have 4,960 health.
Tier 1 – Levels 1-50 – Ixcax is Rank 9 and has 12,000 health. The minions are Rank 8 and have 3,100 health.

Cheats

If a feint is cast on the boss, Ixcax will cast a regular feint back on the caster. To counter this, either death dispel or use any feint except regular on her. That way the boss will have 2 traps: +80% and +30%.

If a Death Blade is casted on Ixcax CursedWing, she will disarm it and instead cast a Virulent Plague on you. Therefore, make sure you keep a couple cleanse charms handy, just in case Ixcax’s minions feel generous with blades.

This is a particularly interesting cheat! At the end of round 5 (and every other 5 rounds after that), Ixcax will cast a mass cleanse ward on her team. This will remove every single negative trap as well as any prisms. She will then cast a mass prism that converts any damage to a specific school.

When you defeat an enemy, the rest will go ahead and cheat cast auras. Ixcax will cast Berserk and the minions will cast Fortify.

Strategy

I recommend inviting an entire team including a healer just in case things go sideways. Storm hitters need to carry storm prisms for Ixcax, and make sure your hitter isn’t directly facing the boss as Ixcax tends to use enfeeble.

This process will vary because of the beguile effect from Crow the minions tend to use.

Drops

The main loot from fighting this boss will be items and spellements from the Shaman’s Spellemental Pack. These spellements will include Lord Of Night, Winter Moon, and Savage Paw. The older gear below can also still be obtained from this boss fight.
