Crafting Watchtower Hall
Grizzleheim House

We’ve reached part 3 of the craft-your-own-house series! Previously, I have written a guide on crafting the Wyrd House and the Celestia Observatory. This time, we’re crafting Watchtower Hall. This Grizzleheim themed house can hold 250 items inside and 250 items outside.

1. The recipe

torald wayfinder

You can buy the recipe from Torald Wayfinder, The House Vendor in Grizzleheim, for 60 000 gold. Buxley is located on Northguard. You have to be at least level 15 to craft his house and you need to be a Master Artisan.

Master Artisan is the badge you get for completing the Dragonspyre crafting quest. Here’s some links to get you started:

This house is quite hard to craft. It requires massive amounts of reagents, which can be very expensive to buy in the Bazaar. Most of the time, I will mention the Bazaar as the first place of business to buy reagents, with the other options (like collecting them or gardening) as alternatives. I do understand the gold can be an issue, so I try to mention every available method for those financially challenged. How expensive (if you use the Bazaar) or time consuming (if you’re collecting) this project turns out will depend on how much gold and how much time you are prepared to spend on this.

In total (amongst other things), you will need 144 Scrap Iron, 100 Frost Flower, 380 Mist Wood, 168 Stone Block, 80 Diamonds, 370 Ore, 90 Nightshade, 300 Ectoplasm, 268 Water Lily and 544 Bronze Gear, if I counted right. That’s a true challenge! I personally had the most trouble with getting the Water Lilies.

2. The ingredients

For this recipe, you will need to craft some other things first: 4 Wooden Water Tower, 4 Carved Stone Tower, 15 Ornamental Stepstones, 30 Stacks of Wood Planks, 8 Grassy Mounds and 2 Water Fountains. I will attempt to give you some pointers about the best locations to get the ingredients.

Wooden Water Tower

The recipe for this item is sold by Balthazar Dragonthorn in the Atheneum in Dragonspyre. Buy the Grassy Mound recipe and the Water Fountain recipe from him at the same time to save you some running! You will need the Housing Crafting Station to craft the Wooden Water Tower (Get one at any of the Furniture Vendors in the Spiral. I usually visit the one in Jade Palace, MS).

Here’s what you need to make 4 Wooden Water Towers

  • 16 Evil Snowman TC
  • 20 Shadow crafting watchtower hallOil
  • 4 Glass Vial
  • 200 Mist Wood
  • 96 Scrap Iron
  • 64 Frost Flower
  • 240 Bronze Gear

Where to get the reagents for Wooden Water Towers

The Bazaar:

  • 16 Evil Snowman TC: very easy to get in the Bazaar amongst the other Ice TCs.
  • 200 Mist Wood: There were 252 available in the Bazaar when I checked. A few days later, there were 500 even! With Mist Wood, you just have to get lucky: sometimes there’s none and sometimes there’s plenty available. I feel like there’s always SOME beginning player without membership who happens to need gold and sells all the reagent they have. It’s a beginner’s mistake that we like to take advantage of 😉 Buy 380 Mist Wood in total, because you’ll need them for other parts of this recipe.
  • 96 Scrap Iron: I got mine in the Bazaar, but this reagent is sold very quickly. Ask a friend who gardens! Evil Magma Peas drop plenty of Scrap Iron. If you want to collect them, we have this guide where we give you pictures for the best locations. You might want to buy 144 Scrap Iron in total, as you will need more of these for other parts of this recipe.
  • 64 Frost Flowers: Another item that requires you to get lucky in the Bazaar. When I checked, there were 200+ available. A second check resulted in 167 Frost Flowers. Sometimes though, I can’t find any. I’d suggest just checking back periodically, waiting for them to appear in the Bazaar. Other options: you can collect these in, for example, Mirkholm Keep in Grizzleheim. There’s a pretty little ice lake hidden behind the red teleporter (take a left turn after using it and don’t get caught by the Howling Banshees). Collect 100 Frost Flowers in total, because you’ll need some for other parts of this recipe too.
  • 240 Bronze Gear: There were 500 available in the Bazaar when I checked initially. A day later, there were 196. These are found in most of the Hoard Packs the Crown Shop offers. This might mean the amounts available had something to do with the fact that I started looking for them right after packs were 50% off. These are dropped by a whole bunch of bosses though, so maybe it’s just naturally readily available. You can also transmute these from Spider Silk with the recipe bought from Felicia Worthington (MB), Kimba Kalla (Floating Land, CL) or Avery Templeton (Celestia Base Camp). Collect 544 Bronze Gear in total, because you’re going to need them for other parts of this recipe as well!

Reagent Vendor:

  • 20 Shadow Oil: Can be bought from the Reagent Vendors in every world up from Krokotopia. You should buy at least 142, because that’s how many you will need in total. There were 21 available in the Bazaar when I checked. I bought them all though 😉
  • 4 Glass Vials: Reagent Vendors in every world up from Marleybone sell Glass Vials. There were 37 available in the Bazaar when I checked, but none were left when I checked a bit later. You should buy at least 16 Glass Vials, because that’s how many you will need of these in total.

carved stone tower picture

Carved Stone Tower

The recipe for this item is sold by Toshio in Jade Palace in Mooshu for 1900 gold. You will need the Housing Crafting Station to craft the Wooden Water Tower.

Here’s what you need to make 4 Carved Stone Towers:

  • 8 Locust Swarm Treasure Cards
  • 12 Shadow Oilcarved stone tower crafting recipe reagents
  • 4 Glass Vial
  • 168 Stone Block
  • 80 Diamond
  • 48 Scrap Iron
  • 176 Bronze Gear

Where to get the reagents for the Carved Stone Towers

The Bazaar:

  • 8 Locust Swarm TC: Available in the Bazaar amonst the other Balance Treasure Cards.
  • 48 Scrap Iron: Buy them in the Bazaar, after asking a friend who gardens to sell some! Evil Magma Peas drop plenty of Scrap Iron. If you want to collect them, we have this guide where we give you pictures for the best locations.
  • 176 Bronze Gear: Buy them in the Bazaar, if you can. These drop from most Hoard Packs and many bosses.

Reagent Vendor:

  • 12 Shadow Oil: Can be bought from the Reagent Vendors in every world up from Krokotopia. There were 21 available in the Bazaar when I checked. I bought them all though 😉
  • 4 Glass Vials: Reagent Vendors in every world up from Marleybone sell Glass Vials. There were 37 available in the Bazaar when I checked, but none were left when I checked a bit later.

Collecting:

  • 168 Stone Blocks: Okay, so you’re probably going to hate this part, but what I would do would be to go collect Stone Blocks in Avalon. We have a guide to help you. If that’s too time consuming for you, you could also try the Bazaar. Stone Blocks ARE available in the Bazaar, but they sell like hotcakes and they can be a little pricey.

Transmuting:

  • 80 Diamonds: Actually, I would combine several methods to get these diamonds. They’re the worst part of the recipe. Diamonds are rare in the Bazaar. You can also transmute them: 15 Ore make one Diamond (recipe at Felicia Worthington in MB and Kimba Kalla in Floating Land, CL). Just know that getting Ore is another problem! You will need 210 Ore to craft the ornamental Stepping Stones, so that makes for quite the amount of Ore. There are four spawning spots for Ore in the Atheneum. You could also try to buy your Ore in the Bazaar. Gardening is another option: Deadly Helephant Ears seem to be the most useful crop for Diamonds. Ask a friend to sell their Diamonds, or build a garden of your own, after farming the Spiral Cup for seeds on a 90+ level wizards.

ornamental stepstones picture

Ornamental Stepstone

You can get the recipe for the Ornamental

Stepstones from Wul’yam in Krokotopia for 595 gold. You need a Housing Crafting Station to craft these.

Here’s what you need to make 15 Ornamental Stepstones:

  • 60 Sornamental stepstones crafting recipe reagentshadow Oils
  • 15 Simple Vials
  • 210 Ore
  • 90 Nightshade
  • 300 Ectoplasm

Where to get the reagents for the Ornamental Stepstones

The Bazaar:

  • 210 Ore: As I said in the recipe above, there are four spawning spots for Ore in the Atheneum. Instead, you could try to buy your Ore in the Bazaar. This takes a great deal of refreshing, but you can expect to see some Ore regularly showing up in the Bazaar.
  • 90 Nightshade: For Nightshade, I suggest a combination of the different possibilities. Maybe you can snag part of them from the Bazaar. In fact, at one point furing my research, there were 328 Nightshade available in the Bazaar! Often, there’s only a few. Maybe, in addition to the Bazaar, you could buy all the Deep Mushrooms available and transmute them to Nightshade with the recipe from Wul’yahm (KT), Kimba Kalla (Floating Lands, CL) or Avery Templeton (Celestia Base Camp). I feel I used to get quite many of these from Winterbane Hall as well, though I haven’t been in there for ages.
  • 300 Ectoplasm: That’s a HUGE amount! However, when I was in the Bazaar, there were 500 available. The next day, there were 494 available, so maybe this is just easy to get? 🙂

Reagent Vendor:

  • 60 Shadow Oil: Sold by the Reagent Vendors in all worlds up from Krokotopia. There were 12 available in the Bazaar when I checked, so it might be worth checking there too.
  • 15 Simple Vial: Sold by the Reagent Vendors in all worlds up from Krokotopia. None were available in the Bazaar when I checked. I would buy an extra 30, because you need them for another part of this recipe.

stack of wood planks picture

Stack of Wood Planks

You can get the recipe for the Stacks of Wood Planks from Eudora TangleTree in Wizard City (just outside the Bazaar in Olde Town) for 138 gold. You can use a Basic Crafting Station OR a Housing Crafting Station to craft these.

Here’s what you need to make 30 Stacks of Wood Planks:

  • 90 Black Coalcrafting recipe reagents stack of wood planks
  • 30 Simple Vial
  • 180 Mist Wood

Where to get the reagents for the Stacks of Wood Planks

The Bazaar:

  • 180 Mist Wood: As I said before, with Mist Wood, you just have to get lucky: sometimes there’s none and sometimes there’s plenty available. I still recommend the Bazaar over trying to collect them yourself. When I last checked, there were 492 available.

Reagent Vendor:

  • 90 Black Coal: Sold by Elmer Meadowgrass (who’s standing right next to Eudora, the woman you just bought the recipe from). Black Coal is sold by all the Reagent Vendors in the Spiral.
  • 30 Simple Vial: Could be that you find them in the Bazaar, but the best source would still be a Reagent Vendor. Elmer Meadowgrass doesn’t sell Simple Vials, but every other Reagent Vendor in the Spiral does.

grassy mound picture

Grassy Mound

You can get the recipe for the Grassy Mound from Balthazar Dragonthorn in the Atheneum in Dragonspyre for 2370 gold. You need a Housing Crafting Station to craft these.

Here’s what you need to make 8 Grassy Mounds:

  • 32 Nature’s Wrath Tgrassy mount crafting recipe reagentsC
  • 48 Shadow Oil
  • 8 Glass Vial
  • 544 Deep Mushroom
  • 208 Water Lily
  • 160 Parchment

Where to get the reagents for the Grassy Mounds

The Bazaar:

  • 544 Deep Mushroom: This reagent used to be rare, but those days are over! I have consistently found about 500 Deep Mushroom in the Bazaar whenever I checked. If you want to save gold, you should head to Avalon, to the Wyld. The Elf Village there has heaps of Deep Mushroom!
  • 208 Water Lily: Be prepared! Collecting these in the Bazaar could be time-consuming and expensive, since these seem to sell for 1000 a piece. The other reasonable way to get these would be to transmute them from Cat Tail, with the recipe sold by Toshio (Jade Palace, MS), Kimba Kalla (Floating Land, CL) or Avery Templeton (Celestia Base Camp). Prepare to collect 268 Water Lily in total, as you will need some for other parts of this recipe as well.
  • 160 Parchment: There were 73 available in the Bazaar when I checked. If you want to go collect your reagents yourself, in this guide I suggested the Entrance Hall in Krokotopia as the best place. You can also transmute 10 Cat Tail and 10 Deep Mushroom into 1 Parchment with the recipe sold by Wul’yahm (KT), Kimba Kalla (Floating Land, CL) or Avery Templeton (Celestia Base Camp).

Reagent Vendor:

  • 48 Shadow Oil: Sold by the Reagent Vendors in all worlds up from Krokotopia. There were some available in the Bazaar when I checked, so it might be worth checking there too.
  • 8 Glass Vials: Reagent Vendors in every world up from Marleybone sell Glass Vials. You might find these in the Bazaar as well.

TC Vendor:

  • 32 Nature’s Wrath Treasure Cards: In Avalon, inside the Library on Abbey Road, there is a monk called Francis Lux. He’s the one that sells these TC. (Ever wondered why the light is on in front of the tower? It’s because this place is considered a “shop” and shops always have their light on.)

water fountain picture

Water Fountain

You can get the recipe for the Grassy Mound from Balthazar Dragonthorn in the Atheneum in Dragonspyre for 2700 gold. You need a Housing Crafting Station to craft these.

Here’s what you need to make 2 Water Fountains:

  • 4 Seraph TC
  • 2 Shadow Oil
  • 4 Glass Vialwater fountain recipe reagents crafting
  • 160 Ore
  • 60 Water Lily
  • 36 Frost Flower
  • 128 Bronze Gear

Where to get the reagents for the Water Fountains

The Bazaar:

  • 4 Seraph Treasure Cards: Available in the Bazaar with the other Life Treasure Cards.
  • 60 Water Lily: Collecting these in the Bazaar is time-consuming and expensive, since these seem to sell for 1000 a piece. The other reasonable way to get these would be to transmute them from Cat Tail, with the recipe sold by Toshio (Jade Palace, MS), Kimba Kalla (Floating Land, CL) or Avery Templeton (Celestia Base Camp).
  • 160 Ore: Don’t expect to get all your Ore at once, but standing in the Bazaar and refreshing every once in a while might be worth it. If you prefer collecting them, there are four spawning spots in the Atheneum in Dragonspyre.
  • 36 Frost Flower: You could get lucky in the Bazaar. Last time I checked, there were 44 available. They come and go.
  • 128 Bronze Gear: Buy them in the Bazaar, if you can. There were 91 available when I checked. These drop from most Hoard Packs and many bosses.

Reagent Vendor:

  • 2 Shadow Oil: Sold by the Reagent Vendors in all worlds up from Krokotopia. There were some available in the Bazaar when I checked, so it might be worth checking there too.
  • 4 Glass Vials: Reagent Vendors in every world up from Marleybone sell Glass Vials. You might find these in the Bazaar as well.

Other ingredients

Have you managed to craft all the above? Amazing! You can be proud of yourself!

Now you just need a few much easier to get items, and you will be all done.

  • 20 Ghost Fire: Head for a Reagent Vendor in any world starting from Mooshu.
  • 10 Blizzard Treasure Cards: Get them from the Bazaar amongst the other Ice Treasure Cards.

Next, head to Grizzleheim and find the Grizzleheim Crafting Station. No, you can’t craft a house in your dorm, it’s way too small for that! You can find the Crafting Station in Northguard, just look at your map once you’ve entered Grizzleheim!

That’s all there is to it!

I reckon crafting this will take you a while, but it’s well worth it. Use the resources available in the game and don’t be afraid to ask a friend for help! Have fun crafting Watchtower Hall!

  • If you’re impatient, you can buy reagents in the Crown Shop.
I’ve crafted this house three times now and find it’s a great process and size – not too big, not too small.
This site is definitely a wonderful way to organize yourself and complete the craft in about two days (being a reagent hoarder helps).
    Great piece of the game.

  • I love this house and would definitely love to buy it, but since this is very expensive can I simply buy the Towers, Fountains etc. at the Bazaar since they do sell things like that? Or would it be considered cheating since I’m buying and not Crafting so it wouldn’t be credited to me towards the Watchtower Recipe?

    • If you buy a carved tower it counts as much as a crafted carved tower!

      • Interesting, happy to see that this might just be easier now!
