The Floating Carpet Glitch
How to Make your Wizard101 Castles Unique

Making fantastic houses to put on Castle Tours can be a challenge, and you can often feel as if you don’t have enough room in your castle, or that your maze castle isn’t difficult enough because it’s too short. But what if you could have more space in your castle without buying a new one in the crowns shop? What if you could make your own second floor to your house? In this article, you’ll learn how to make unique castles by taking advantage of the Floating Carpet Glitch, a glitch that later became recognized as a feature in the game.

Floating Carpet Glitch
An example of the floating carpet glitch.

With the Floating Carpet glitch, you can easily make two or more stories in your house, allowing nearly unlimited expansion.  You can truly make unique and massive mazes, houses, and more! The best part is that KingsIsle will never remove this glitch. They have mentioned in forum posts many times that they like this glitch, and think it’s a great boost in the creativity of the community.

What is this “Floating Carpet Glitch”, and how do you use it?

The floating carpet glitch will seem complicated at first, but you’ll quickly understand how to use it after you do it once. It requires a small amount of gold though, so I recommend having at least 1200 gold before we start. You won’t be using all of it, but it’s good to have.

Materials needed for the glitch.

The above are the materials you will need to do this glitch: 1 Large Watcher Rug, 2 crates, and 1 Small Blue Trim Rug. First, you will need either two “Crate of Jellybeans”, “Crate of Hotdogs”, or “Crate of Icecream”. You will also need one “Small Blue Trim Rug”, and one “Large Watcher Rug”. It is recommended to buy all of these things at the Bazaar, as it’s the quickest way of obtaining them. If the Bazaar failed you, try looking for these items elsewhere:

  • Large Watcher Rug – any other similar sized rug can be used.
  • Small Blue Trim Rug – can be bought from Aubert Quickhammer in Shopping District.
  • Crates – can be bought in the crown shop for gold.

Teleport back to your dorm or castle (I strongly recommend to do this in a castle, as you really don’t have much room in a dorm), and place down those two crates right next to each other, as shown in the picture above and below. Next, place the Small Blue Trim Rug on the VERY EDGE of the Large Watcher Rug. Don’t place it inside, next to, or on top, you need to place it on the very edge of the Large Watcher Rug. If you don’t the glitch will not work correctly.

How will I know if I’ve done this step correctly?

If you’ve done this all correctly, then when you rotate the Small Blue Trim Rug, the Large Watcher Rug should rotate with it. Basically, the Large Watcher Rug is now attached to the Small Blue Trim Rug. Now that you’ve gotten that down, move the Small Blue Trim Rug on top of the two Crates.

This is what it should look like when you move the Small Blue Trim Rug on the Crates.

Hang in there, you’re almost done!

When you walk up to the rug, it should shoot you on top of it. Now, we want to get rid of the crates and that Small Blue Trim Rug. Don’t just remove the crates, though. That will also remove the Large Watcher Rug, and all of your progress thus far. There is a specific way you must do it for the rug to stay.

This part is a little tricky, but I think you can get it. Move the crate that is farthest from the Large Watcher Rug one step away from the Rug. See the picture below for reference.

This is what it looks like now. The Small Blue Trim carpet is still touching both crates, it’s just separated by a small gap now. The final step is to remove the Small Blue Trim Rug, but not the crates, as shown below.

Congratulations, you did it!

You have successfully completed the Floating Carpet Glitch. You can stack more carpets on top of each other for a really tall tower. These carpets don’t have textures on the bottom of them, meaning they are invisible when you are looking at them from under them. This means you won’t have to worry about people finding it weird that there are floating carpets, because you only see them when you’re on the same level as them!

Alright, but what can I do with this glitch?

You can do so many things! Travel to parts of castles previously unexplored by using these carpets as a bridge. Make hidden areas in the sky. Yes, you read that right, you can make a sky base. Don’t worry, though, because this glitch has uses outside of decoration.

You can use this as a secret area, or as a place to have your garden. The new Everafter Village has hidden areas you can actually stand on and fish, but can only be accessed with glitches like this. Don’t want people accessing your house gauntlets? Hide them in the sky! The possibilities are endless with this, and I can’t wait to see what you do with it!

Do you think this should be removed?
What cool creations have you made with it?
