Wizard101 Name or Gender Changes

Have you ever wanted to make name or gender changes to your Wizard101 characters? With the Summer 2023 update (currently in test realm), it’s now possible! This update has been a long time in the works, and highly anticipated by the community. Let’s check out this big change to character customization!

Caution!

Before we dig into the new update, take a moment of caution! Any changes you make to your character’s name or gender are IRREVERSIBLE and ONE TIME ONLY per character. So, make sure you have the perfect name choice picked out before you make any changes! Additionally, name or gender changes are only available to wizards level 50 or above.

How do I make name or gender changes?

Head on over to the Magic Mirror in the Shopping District. The Mirror already allows us to customize our characters’ designs, from eye colour to hairstyles and face paint. Now, the “Change Name or Gender” button in the top right of the Mirror’s menu adds a new level of customization. From there, you can decide whether to change both your name and gender, or just your name alone. Changing the gender does require a name change, too.

Unfortunately, making any changes to your character’s name or gender is not free. The price is the same for both customization options: 100 Crowns. Considering this is a one-time change, I’d say this is a very reasonable price. Just be aware that this cost applies to each character, should you want to make changes to multiple.

Once you make any name or gender changes to your wizard, all of your friends will be able to see the change in their Friends List. A handy icon will show next to any wizards that have changed their names, with a reminder of what their name used to be. To avoid any confusion, make sure your friends recognise you by reintroducing yourself!

But that’s not all!

If you change your character’s name, or make any new characters, you might notice something different. There are also some new name options to choose from! Each name category now has double the number of options as before. While the lists of first names are still different between male and female characters, more gender-neutral options have been added. Hopefully you will find a name that best suits you and your character!

Final Thoughts

Overall, this is a fantastic, long-awaited update to Wizard101. Maybe you have a Death character named FireDust, or used “Angle” instead of “Angel”? Maybe your character was made a long time ago, and their name or gender doesn’t reflect who you are anymore? Or maybe, you just want to try out the outfits for the opposite gender? Whatever the reason for wanting a change, now is the time to customize your character exactly the way you want them!
