Spell Balancing Roundtable

Final Bastion is happy to announce that we will be hosting the Wizard101 Developers for a roundtable on Spell Balancing and the ongoing Spell Audit. Over the last several months a new initiative has begun to rebalance spells in an effort to get Advanced Combat (PvP, Raids, Hard mode) attuned to a specific difficulty and meta. We’ll be joining the Devs to talk about the latest changes in the May 31, 2023 patch and try to gain an understanding on how spell balance has evolved and why.

Who: Shadow, Bandit, and the Wizard101 Devs

When: Tuesday, June 6th @ 4pm CST

Twitch: Final Bastion

Youtube: Final Bastion

We will be dual streaming the roundtable on both Twitch and Youtube so feel free to join us on either channel! Topics will include changes from the May 31, 2023 patch including Rank 1-6 Spellements, Ramp Spells, and new TCs along with other topics relative to spells in general. We hope to see you there!

Shadow

Shadow entered the Spiral in 2010 and has since been wandering the worlds seeking adventures and challenges. He knows his way around every aspect in Wizard101 to varying degrees but has untamed enthusiasm for team pvp and difficult bosses. On rare occasions Shadow dons a pirate hat and can be found swashbuckling around the Spiral in P101.

  • Please ask if they really are replacing deaths drain mechanic with the ability to reduce max hp on enemies. If that change happens i dont think i can return to this game anymore

    • I don’t think there’s any reason to believe this would happen. I think I know where the idea was originally mentioned, but it was both a hypothetical and didn’t mention anything about replacing the drain mechanic. If it did happen it would likely be an additional utility, not a replacement.

      • Thanks for the reply, I really hope it wouldnt be drastically changed like that and I hope they add more pve favoring upgrades for spells vs just a small nearly negligable bump in damage like we normally see.

  • Empower has quietly been one of the best cards in the game for quite some time now. I would like to know the devs’ opinion on this card. Is it fair? Should it stay in the game?

    • I agree, empower has become a really good spell especially for every school that isn’t death. I’m not sure about removing it completely but I wouldn’t mind some fine tuning to make self damage spells fit more into their role as a gambit-like action.

  • It would be nice if they werent forcing pvp ideas on pve always

    • The last batch of changes didn’t have any real effect on PVE. Most of the spell changes were on the Path B spellements and those paths are specifically designed for pvp, raids, and other advance combat initiatives as there have been many requests over the years to split the cards between pve and pvp.

  • Can KI stop making Pyromancers so Reliant on DOTs for damage?
