How to Wait for Turn Based Tourneys
“Turn Based” PvP tournaments were a long awaited feature and I, for one, am loving them! (Today I tried doing a regular 4v4 and I spent the entire time hating myself wishing it was turn based) However, a big issue that I’ve discovered is that there actually aren’t that many of them on the Tournament schedule! it’s a travesty…I mean…I could be a little addicted because they were just released, but still I just can’t handle waiting for them to come around and I just know that you guys have to feel the same way. Somehow every time I log on to see if one is coming up it’s an hour away! So what is an impatient player to do? Well, that is what I am here to tell you!
Technique #1: Twiddle Your Thumbs
Technique #1 is always to twiddle your thumbs. I don’t mean literally, but it is an option to simply park your character by the kiosk and occupy yourself with something else. For example, I usually split my screen between the game and the internet tbh the best way to write articles about a game is to play the game and write the articles simultaneously. Another option would be to simply spin your character in place and go make some food…I’m jk, we’re gonna talk more about this later occupy yourself with something else. You can also literally sit there and twiddle your thumbs…I don’t know why you’d want to but to each their own…
Technique #2: Farm
This is my favorite way to pass the time! You honestly cannot go wrong if you’re spending any of your downtime farming. After all, there’s no sense in waiting for a tournament if you can’t actually afford to sign up for it. Sometimes I’ll sign up for my tournament and spend any wait time left- if it’s at 45 mins or something -farming. Halfang is my favorite boss by far, though he’s definitely no secret. I’m also not too picky in terms of the stuff that I get from him. Even though the Cow’s Pearl Amulet is the goal all of his drops sell well. When I have extra gold as a result of farming I can then turn to Technique #3.
Technique #3: Do Another Tourney
This is the option I find myself going with the most after farming. Sometimes I’ll only give the tournament about half of my attention, but at least it’s a way to pass the time. In order to utilize this option you have to either like other tournament styles, be good at other tournament styles, or be able to take the losses without getting depressed or super enraged and then become consumed by bitterness (I know it’s hard. It’s a daily struggle for me, trust me). You may find that you really enjoy yourself! or, as I said earlier, you may really hate it and yourself for getting into this…
Technique #4: Get Make Some Food
So I say “Make” food here instead of “get” in the hopes that making something will help you to make healthy choices...but I know from personal experience that’s not often the case really. Bring your food to your computer and try out one of the other techniques here! (or eat it at a table like a person with real manners)
Technique #5: Take Your Cats for a Walk
Obviously you can substitute “cats” for pets in general. Personally, I really do like to take my indoor cats to my backyard for supervised grass-eating outdoor time. It’s a great opportunity to just sit in the sun and get some much needed Vitamin D.
Technique #6: Read a Book
Reading a book is always a great way to pass both small and large amounts of time! I used to read a lot more than I do now, but I encourage all to utilize this technique- both in their day to day lives and when waiting for tournaments. Here are some quick book suggestions that I could think of off the top of my head for both adults and those younger than adults:
Lion's Top Adult Books
Lion's Top Young Adult Books
Technique #7: Work on Your Deck
This is also a more short term technique. You should almost always take a minute before a tournament to check over your deck and work on it if need be. Now, I can’t really imagine working on it for 30 mins or something but ostensibly you could if you were simultaneously reading a guide or completely overhauling it.
Technique #8: Take a Restroom Break
This is meant to be a short term technique, as in, for when you have 15 mins left till the match. Don’t discount this technique! Tournaments are not always conducive environments for bathroom breaks, so take advantage of the opportunity when it arises!
The Bottom Line?
KI! Put more turn based tourneys in the tournament rotation! You’re killing us over here! (or at least just me)
