Wizard101 Ramps And Gambits


It’s finally time- the moment you’ve been waiting for! Ramps and gambits, and advanced combat as a whole, are allowed in Standard PVE. In Wizard101’s fall update the ramp and gambit spells are being audited as part of a larger Spell Library Review. Along with the audit these spells have lost their ‘Advanced Combat Only’ tag and are now allowed in standard PvE, Challenge Mode PvE, Raids, and PvP.

The developers originally banned these spells completely from PvE, while experimenting with several different iterations. 0Based on the count of our records these spells have changed a minimum of 5 times since Fall 2021. Doom Oni appears to be the most changed spell with at least 9 versions we’ve recorded here on the site. Having all these spells in PvE will definitely create a few interesting encounters, although I suspect these spells will remain rather niche. 

What are Ramps and Gambits?

These spells are considered the original Rhoshambo spells. In other words they are the simplistic versions of rock paper scissors turned into cards and divided up between the 7 schools. Ramps are spells that convert one hanging effect into another hanging effect. Instead of removing the effect and reverting the board or duel to an empty state, the ramps intend to advance a win condition. The gambit spells aim to capitalize on the existing board state and turn those circumstances into extra damage. Let’s take a look below.
