The Spiral Lore
Wizard City

The lore of the Spiral is extensive and honestly very intriguing. With so many worlds in Wizard101 and Pirate101 with so much history, it’s hard to keep track of when, what, and why. In this article, I’m going to attempt to mark down all the lore behind Wizard City. If you find anything you think I should add or something that is inaccurate, please let us know in the comments below.

Wizard City Lore

The Creation of Wizard City

The Spiral was once one collective world, named the First World, ruled by three elder races: the Fire Dragons, the Frost Giants, and the Tritons (also known as the Storm Lords). Fighting between these groups resulted in the destruction of the First World. An alarmed Bartleby then sang the Song of Creation, which put the races to sleep and mended the now-shattered worlds.

Hailing from Avalon, the wizard Merle Ambrose and his owl companion, Gamma, found Bartleby and built Wizard City around him. Merle set up schools and hunted down the best teachers to teach all the different types of magic, excluding Astral Magic and Shadow Magic.

Wizard City’s Recent History

For centuries, Wizard City and Ravenwood thrived teaching young wizards the arts of magic. All was well until Life Professor Sylvia Drake caught a horrible, incurable disease. Despite the efforts of wizards from around the Spiral as well as those from her own husband, the Death Professor, Malistaire Drake, Sylvia eventually succumbed to her illness and passed away. Enraged and heartbroken, Malistaire descended into madness, leaving Ravenwood to pursue dark means of resurrecting his wife… but not before ripping the Death School from the main campus, sending it crashing down to Nightside far below.

Worried about what Malistaire might do to disrupt the order of the Spiral, Merle Ambrose and Gamma searched the known universe to find a young wizard to save the Spiral. Eventually, Merle found Earth, a distant planet where such notions of magic didn’t exist. Then, at long last, he found you.

Wizard City Fun Facts

  • Elik’s Edge is a spot in the Shopping District that Ice wizards visit for a spell quest. But why is it named as it is? It is named after an early student of Merle Ambrose named Elik. He was a scandalous student, and when pursued after stealing items from local shops, he jumped off the edge, never to be seen or heard from again.
  • Lydia Greyrose is the first professor Merle Ambrose recruited, as she saved him from trouble in her homeland of Karamelle.
  • The Drakes (Malistaire, Sylvia, and Cyrus) used to teach all the Spirit Schools (Death, Life, and Myth) before Sylvia’s death. Now, only Cyrus remains.

That is all the known history behind Wizard City and Ravenwood. I’d love to see more about Merle Ambrose’s history, and more dungeons like the five B.O.X.E.S that will give us more insight on the history of Ravenwood.

  • you should include prince viggor of dragonspyre’s war against the treeminders of ravenwood here! it definitely adds to the history of wizard city.

  • “he jumped off the edge, never to be seen or heard from again.”

So what your saying is he died. Gotcha.

  • something pretty cool that’s mentioned in the wizard city box (five b.o.x.e.s quests) actually talks about how prospective students to ravenwood have to fill out applications, and storm is an extremely popular school, unlike myth.

  • Please continue with the remaining storlyline 🙂

  • is it possible you can create the history of Morganthe and Grandfather Spider, including Grandmother Raven?
