Aethyr Elemental Boss Highlights
The Wizard101 Spring 2019 Test Realm is finally ready for testing! Hidden away in a cave in the Northeast Aeroplains of Empyrea lies the newest Stone Skeleton Key boss. The Aethyr Elemental sports some unique mechanics that haven’t been seen before in a boss fight. This article will serve as a highlight of the known boss mechanics.
We are currently working on a speed run strategy that will be posted at a later date. Do note that Kingsisle has confirmed that the Aethyr Elemental’s drops are bugged (it currently drops the same loot as Corporal Tenni’syn) and will be updated at a later time.
General Mechanics
The Aethyr Elemental is unique in that he has 3 stages. At first he seems relatively simple: He’s a single Rank 18 Ice Shadow Boss with no minions. He has 40,000 health, which isn’t terrible for an end-game stone key boss. However, upon defeating him, his unique mechanic comes into play. When beaten, the boss re-summons 2 copies of himself at 20,000 hp each. When these 2 copies are defeated, he summons 4 copies of himself at 10,000 hp each.
Stage 1 Mechanics
- 40,000 HP
- Casts Mass Enfeeble on the entire team each time a blade, bubble, or negative charm is cast.
- Casts Mass Double Cleanse Ward (removes 2 traps) on self every time a feint is used.
- Steals any Heal over Time (including pet heal over times such as Sprite or Lifebat)
- Removes any DoT
- Late Cheat: Casts Shadow Lord of Winter
What this effectively means is that for this stage the party is only allowed one blade (if protected by Aegis) and one feint (if protected by Indemnity). Furthermore, the feint must be placed before other traps, or you will risk losing already-placed traps. To kill, you must rely on traps and bubbles/auras.
Stage 2 Mechanics
- 2 bosses with 20,000 HP each
- Both are Ice + Shadow Creatures
- They cast Mass Double Cleanse Ward (removes 2 traps) on selves every time a feint is used
- The bosses remove any DoT
- They steal any Heal over Time (including pet heal over times such as Sprite or Lifebat)
- Late Cheat: Each boss casts Shadow Lord of Winter (x2)
For this stage, blades are allowed (phew). Non-feint traps are non-restricted. Feints are restricted in the same way there are for stage 1.
Stage 3 Mechanics
- 4 bosses with 10,000 HP each
- All are Ice + Shadow Creatures
- They cast Mass Double Cleanse Ward (removes 2 traps) on selves every time a feint is used
- The bosses remove any DoT
- They steal any Heal over Time (including pet heal over times such as Sprite or Lifebat)
- Late Cheat: Each boss casts Shadow Lord of Winter (x4)
For this stage blades are allowed. Non-feint traps are non-restricted. Feints are restricted in the same way there are for stage 1 and 2.
General Notes
- Like many more recent bosses: A Fire hitter is ideal due to their access to multiple traps, the Scion of Fire and boost on this boss.
- A secondary hitter can be used for quicker kills on the next stages.
- This boss loves to use Frost Giant/Shadow Frost Giant and in Stage 2 and 3 can easily chain stun if you are not careful.
- If you kill one boss on Stage 2 he will spawn 2 x 10k copies, once you kill the other boss he will spawn 3 x 10k copies. In other words- it’s best to take both Stage 2 bosses out at the same time.
- Stage 2 and 3 seem to hit a LOT harder and with 2 and then 4 incoming hits per round – it’s paramount to end these stages quickly.
- DO NOT FLEE at Stage 3 without a plan to survive once you return. Due to the fact that 4 bosses are on the field, when you come back you will be hit by 4 Shadow Lord of Winters.
Aethyr Elemental Battle Drops
This stone skeleton key boss drops several interesting items that will make this fight worth the trouble for you. Among the drops you will find the Sycorax staff weapons, the Aethyr Cloud mount, the Dark Hound pet, and school design gear for the Elegant set. Additionally, after completing the Aethyr Elemental battle for the first time you will obtain the “Aethyr Eater” badge.
