Wizard101 Beastmoon Hunt:
How to Get Upgrades & Rewards

a. Upgrade a Beastform’s Level

When you start playing Beastmoon Hunt, whenever you choose a Beastform it will be Level 1.

While the Hunt is running, you can choose to increase the Level of one or more Beastforms, all the way to Level 5 if you want.  Upgrading a Beastform’s Level gives you four benefits:

To upgrade a Beastform’s Level, you can use the “Beast Form Upgrades” kiosk in the Arena. You also can use the same kiosk to browse the spell cards available for each Level for each Beastform.

Good news: Increasing a Beastform’s Level is the easiest upgrade to get. So it can be a good option if you’re not planning on playing Beastmoon Hunt so much.

Bad news: All of your Beastform levels are reset at the end of each Beastmoon Hunt event. So be aware that Levels are a temporary upgrade.

b. Unlock or Upgrade a Beastorm’s Tier

You also can increase the Tier for a Beastform. Each one starts at Tier 1 and can be increased to Tier 5.

When you increase a Tier for a Beastform, it automatically increases the Level too, so you get the same exact benefits that we described in the last section.

Good news: Unlike Levels, Tiers are not reset each Beastmoon Hunt event. Once you get Tier 2 for a Beastform, you’ll always be Tier 2 (and thus Level 2) for it. 

Bad news: In order for you to be able to upgrade a Beastmoon’s Tier, you must unlock it first. And unlocking a Beastmoon requires a Gold Idol, which are very limited (we discuss later).

More good news: Normally for each Beastmoon Hunt some Beastforms are locked and you can’t select them. But if you’ve unlocked a Beastform, you may choose it any time (you’re special!)

More bad news: Tiers require the most resources to get (especially as you get closer to Tier 5).  So we’d suggest only going for Tier upgrades if you plan on playing a lot of Beastmoon Hunt and are willing to spend time obtaining the resources you need for them.

c. Craft a Stylin’ Beastmoon Robe

If you’re into Wizardly fashion, the Beastmoon Rewards recipe vendor, Actaeon, offers receipts for you to craft stylin’ Beastmoon robes. You can find Actaeon in the Arena.

The robes don’t have any stats (it’s all about the stich, baby!).

d. Obtain Pigsie Treasure Cards (or some others)

One other reward to note is that you can get Pigsie Treasure Cards from gardening Life Beastmoon Blossoms.

The drop rate is pretty low, so don’t expect much. But Pigsie Treasure Cards can be hard to get, so it’s good to keep this in mind.

You also can get Treasure Cards from gardening other school Beastmoon Blossoms. You may want to use some (e.g., Dragonblade, Dark Pact, Leafstorm) or you can sell the others for additional gold.

a. Lunari

Lunari are needed to:

• Purchase Level and Tier upgrades
• Purchase Beastmoon-related crafting recipes

You obtain Lunari two ways:

• By participating in a Beastmoon Hunt
  • If you win your match, you get 20-30 Lunari (24.5 on average)
  • If you lose a match, you still get 10-15 Lunari (12.2 on average)
• As a reward for particpating in the Beastmoon Hunt and Scroll of Fortune events
  • Note that some Lunari rewards require purchasing a Scroll of Fortune with Crowns, some don’t

Lunari are not tradeable nor auctionable.  You can have a maximum of 5,000.

You can’t see how many Lunari you have anywhere in you character screens. However, the easiest way to see how many you have is by talking to Actaeon (the Beastmoon recipe vendor) in the Arena.

b. Battle Coins

Battle Coins are used to purchase Battle Cards during a Hunt from Actaeon in your team’s base (he’s everywhere!).

You can obtain Battle Coins two ways:

• By opening the Battle Chests that appear in the Battle Arena during a Hunt
• From a Elder harvest of a Beastmoon Blossom (10-80 Battle Coins, depending on which Blossom)

Battle Coins aren’t tradeable or auctionable. You can have a maximum of 100 (which you will hit often).

And KI must consider the amount of Battle Coins you have a “strictly need to know item”. The only way to see how many you have is when you interact with Actaeon during a Hunt!

a. Moonstones

Moonstones are needed to:

• Craft Beastmoon Seeds
• Upgrade to a Level 2, 3, or 4 Beastform

You get Moonstones:

• By participating in a Beastmoon Hunt (at the end of the Hunt)
• From an Elder harvest of a Beastmoon Blossom
• Or as a reward for achieving a certain amount of points in the Beastmoon Hunt or Scroll of Forture progress bars

We’ll cover the different types of Moonstones and talk about them more in the Crafting and Gardening sections.

b. Thread

Thread is needed to craft Beastmoon robes.

You get Thread:

• By participating in a Beastmoon Hunt (at the end of the Hunt)
• From an Elder harvest of a Beastmoon Blossom
• Or as a reward for achieving a certain amount of points in the Beastmoon Hunt or Scroll of Forture progress bars

We’ll cover the different types of Thread and talk about them more in the Crafting and Gardening sections.

c. Gold Beastmoon Idols

Gold Beastmoon Idols are needed to unlock a Beastform.

Their availability is very limited. You can only get them two ways (and you don’t get to choose which idol type you get):

• Each Beastmoon Hunt event has a Gold Idol as a reward
• Each Scroll of Fortune event has a Gold Idol as a reward. You must purchase the Scroll of Fortune with Crowns to be eligible to receive it

So if you plan to upgrade Beastform Tiers, most likely you will be limited by which Gold Idols you can get.

d. Regular Beastmoon Idols

Regular Beastmoon Idols are needed to:

• Upgrade to a Level 5 Beastform
• Upgrade any Beastform Tier

You get Regular Idols from an Elder harvest of a school-specific Beastmoon Blossom.

a. Beastmoon Seeds

There are three main “types” of Beastmoon Seeds:

• Beastmoon Seed (think of this as your “basic” Beastmoon Seed)
• Elemental or Spirit Moon Seeds
• School-specific Moon Seeds (e.g., Life Moon Seed)

Beastmoon Seeds are the only way to obtain some Moonstones and Thread. They also provide Battle Coins and Treasure Cards at Elder harvest.

How do you get them?

• You get a “basic” Beastmoon Seed every time you participate in a Beastmoon Hunt
• You can only get the other types of Beastmoon Seeds from Crafting

Beastmoon Seeds never have needs nor have pests, so we suggest planting them in your main house, close to where you enter, since you may want to visit them often.

They tend to grow VERY fast:

• They reach Young in less than a minute (I believe around 30 seconds)
• Then they reach Mature in less than a minute too
• And finally they reach Elder in 1-8 hours (depending on the Seed type)

b. Beastmoon Planters

Beastmoon Seeds can only be planted in Beastmoon Planters — nothing else!

You get 2 Beastmoon Planters at the end of your first Beastmoon Hunt. Be careful not to trash them!

You get another Beastmoon Planter at the end of participating in your 25th Beastmoon Hunt.

Thus, you can only have a maximum of 3 Beastmoon Planters.

C. Hasty Harvest Treasure Card

Hasty Harvest Treasure Cards allow you to harvest a mature Beastmoon Blossom immediately, for 10 energy.

You can get them occasionally:

• By participating in a Beastmoon Hunt
• From an Elder harvest of any Beastmoon Blossom

I’d suggest only using your Hasty Harvest Treasure Cards when you are running low on Battle Coins while the Beastmoon Hunt event is going on. Harvesting a couple of Beastmoon Blossoms can quickly take you from 0 to 100 Battle Coins.

Ideally, you also want to use them on school-specific Beastmoon Seeds too, since they take longer than the others to reach Elder.

1. Participating in a Beastmoon Hunt

When you participate in a Beastmoon Hunt, you get the following items when the match is over:

• A “basic” Beastmoon Seed
• Lunari
  • If you win your match, you get 20-30 Lunari (24.5 on average)
  • If you lose a match, you still get 10-15 Lunari (12.2 on average)
• And either 4 (if your team wins) or 2 (if your team loses) additional items, which can be:
  • Some Thread
  • A Hunter’s, Balance, Elemental or Spirit Moonstone
  • A Hasty Harvest Treasure Card

Not much strategy to discuss here. The more you participate in Beastmoon Hunts, the more you get. And the more often your team wins, the faster you get Lunari.

2. Crafting

You’ll need to craft if you want any Beastmoon Hunt upgrades or rewards except:

• Level 2 Beastform upgrades require Lunari and Hunter’s Moonstone, which is easy to get as a reward from playing
• Level 3 Beastform upgrades require Lunari and Balance, Elemental or Spirit Moonstones.  You can get as a reward from playing but might want to craft a little
• The robes for a school require Lunari and Thread.  It’s easy to get the Elrich Thread as a reward for playing for the Tier 1 Robe.  But for the others, you’ll want to craft to get the amount needed

You can buy Beastmoon-related Recipes from Actaeon in the Arena.

Each Beastmoon crafting recipe requires Lunari. Although it’s easy to get Lunari (you get it from playing a Beastmoon Hunt match), it can take a while to get enough to buy a recipe.

So how should you prioritize which recipes you buy as you gather enough Lunari? Here’s the order we would recommend:

So how much Lunari will you need to garden anything you need? It will cost you 1265 Lunari to buy all Beastmoon Seed and Transmute Recipes.

3. Gardening

Gardening Beastmoon Blossoms is really easy:

• Plant them in your Beastmoon Planters
• Hang out for less than a minute (or do something and come back quickly) while they reach Young
• Hang out for less than a minute (or do something and come back quickly) while they reach Mature
• Then come back and harvest them once they reach Elder:
  • 45 minutes for a Beastmoon Blossom
  • 3 hours for a Elemental or Spirit Moon Blossom
  • 8 hours for a School-Specific Moon Blossom

The don’t develop needs or pests, so it good to have them in your main house, near the entrance, since you’ll need to visit them so often.

When you’re starting off, what Seeds should you prioritize? We suggest:

• Start by growing the Beastmoon Seeds that you get after each Hunt
• Once you obtain the Elemental and Spirit Moon Seed Recipes, craft and grow them. They will give you needed School-Specific Moonstones
• And once you obtain the School-Specific Seed Recipe and some School-Specific Moonstones, you can craft and grow them. They will give you the Regular Idols and School-Specific Thread that you will need for upgrades

Beastmoon Blossom elder harvests will give you more Moonstones than you need to craft more Beastmoon Seeds, effectively giving you an unlimited supply of Beastmoon Seeds over time.

4. Bonus Content!  My Gardening “Factory”

Gardening Beastmoon Blossoms is quite quick and easy. But for some upgrades & rewards, you’ll need to do a LOT of it, and you’re constrained to 3 Beastmoon Planters per Wizard.

Well since you can move Beastmoon Seeds and Reagents into your shared bank, why not increase your production capacity by using your other Wizards to help? Henry Ford would be so proud…

Here was the approach I’m using, in case it’s helpful to someone else:

Setup

I have one Wizard that is my primary Beastmoon Hunt player that has purchased all of the Seed and Transmute recipes. For my other Wizards, I played the Beastmoon Hunt once to get the 2 Beastmoon Planters and then placed them in their houses.

Production

I do my “Beastmoon gardening ritual” twice a day (usually in the morning and evening). Since the seeds reach Elder in 8 hours, they’re always at Elder when I visit.  It only takes about 10-15 minutes each time:

• I visit the house of my “Main Beastmoon Hunt Player Wizard”, harvest, and plant new Beastmoon seeds
• I then do the same thing for all of my other Wizards (log on, visit house, harvest, and plant new Beastmoon seeds)
• Then I do another pass for the other Wizards
  • Log in and visit my house to get the Beastmoon Blossom to Young
  • Go to my Bank, move Seeds from my Shared Bank to my Backpack, and move Moonstones from my Backpack to my Shared Bank
  • Go back to my house.  By now the Beastmoon Blossoms are at Mature
  • Log out and switch to the next “other Wizard”
• Finally I log back in with my main Wizard and:
  • Visit my house to get the Beastmoon Blossom to Young
  • Go to my Bank, move Moonstones from my Shared bank to my Backpack
  • Go to the Arena and craft more Beastmoon Seeds
  • Go back to my house.  By now the Beastmoon Seeds are at Mature
  • Go the my Bank and move the Beastmoon Seeds I crafted to my Shared Bank

With this appraoch, I’ve been able to get about 25+ Regular Idols for each Beastform in a month. It seems to work well, but if you have any suggestions for a more efficient approach let us know in the comments!

1. Upgrade a Beastform’s Level

Upgrading a Beastform’s Level requires the least amount of resources:

If you just want to play the Beastmoon Hunt a few times and just want to upgrade a Beastform or two to Level 2 or 3, feel free to upgrade your Level as soon as you have enough Lunari

But if you’re interested in any other rewards:

• For your first Hunt, we suggest prioritizing spending your Lunari on purchasing the Seed and Transmute recipes (which will cost you 1265 Lunari) before upgrading any levels. Level 1 Beastforms can still be quite competitive, especially if you follow our Beastmoon Hunt Strategy recommendations.
• Once you can garden any Beastmoon Seed you want, you main constraint usually is Lunari, since it’s pretty easy to eventually get any other resource you need through gardening
• And if you plan on playing the Hunt a lot, you may choose to only upgrade Tiers (which are permanent) and never upgrade Levels (which are reset to 1 at the end of each Hunt)

2. Unlock or Upgrade a Beastorm’s Tier

Upgrading a Beastform’s Tier can require a significant amount of resources, especially as you approach Tier 5:

Your main constraint will be the Gold Idol needed to unlock a Beastform:

• If you don’t want to spend Crowns, then you only can get one predetermined Gold Idol as a reward during each Beastmoon Hunt event (pretty easy to get if you enjoy playing the Hunt)
• If you spend Crowns on a Scroll of Fortune, you can get one other predetermined Gold Idol as a reward from each Scroll of Fortune event

Once you get a Gold Idol and unlock a Beastform:

• After you reach the point where you can garden any Beastmoon Seed you want (which will cost you 1265 Lunari), it’s pretty easy to get enough Regular Idols through gardening, although it may take a few months to get there
• So your main constraint most likely will be the Lunari needed

3. Craft a Stylin’ Beastmoon Robe

Want to wear a stylin’ Beastmoon Robe? Here’s what it will set you back:

* – B/E/S is short for Balance, Elemental or Spirit (note that the school thread needed for the Balance-themed robe is called “Harmonious Thread”)

If you want to get a Tier 4 robe, it’s going to take a lot of participating in the Beastmoon Hunt (to get Lunari) and gardening (to get the Thread).  They’re both easy to get, so it’s just a matter of time (not sure which part will end up taking more!)

d. Obtain Pigsie Treasure Cards (or some others)

On average you get 1.5 Treasure Cards from an Elder harvest of a Beastmoon Blossom.

There are 6 Treasure Cards that a Life Beastmoon Blossom can give you. So with a little maths (1/6 * 1.5 = 25%), that should mean we get a Pigsie Treasure Card 1 out of every 4 Elder harvests, right?

Well unfortunately KI seems to like really low drop rates on precious resources, because the actual drop rate is much lower in my experience! I think I’ve done around 55 Elder harvests of Life Beastmoon Blossoms and have only received 2 Pigise Treasure Cards. That’s a drop rate around 1-2% per Elder harvest.

Well, I guess 2 Pigsie TC is better than nuthin’…
