Scion Spells
In Depth Mechanics Testing

Kingsisle came up with brand new mechanics in the form of trainable spells with Empyrea part 2. If you don’t know anything about them yet, check this article first in order to get familiar with some of the basics. You can also check the complete test realm update notes on the Wizard101 site forums. Now that we’re done with the basics, we can continue our journey and explore more of the Scion Spells mechanics.

Game mechanics have always fascinated me. I have an inner need to know every single detail about how spells work. One reason is that once you know the mechanics of a spell, you can use that knowledge to your advantage which could -in some cases- be the difference between wining or losing a match. The other reason is simply becoming smarter, which is simply fascinating and amazing!

So anyway, I couldn’t resist going on and bugging the rest of the team to help me test this stuff, so we can create an article and share the knowledge with you. We’ve compiled a not-so-straightforward list of possible outcomes and tested them out.

Scion of Fire

  • You can use non-fire traps (or mix of them) in order to trigger double damage: true/false TRUE
  • You can trigger double damage, if last (or both) trap is casted the same round as you use Scion: true/false TRUE
  • Double damage won’t trigger if you start second and enemy clean traps as you hit: true/false TRUE
  • Spell won’t cleanse opponent’s traps if you or your opponent has active myth dispel: true/false FALSE

Scion of Ice

  • Receiving damage which drops your health below 90 % in the same round as you hit won’t trigger double damage: true/false TRUE
  • Getting healed the same round as you hit (assuming you don’t start with 90% health) before attacking will trigger double damage: true/false TRUE
  • Getting healed the same round as you hit (assuming you don’t start with 90% health) after attacking will trigger double damage: true/false FALSE

Scion of Storm

  • Double damage will trigger if opponents blades are cleaned the same round as you hit: true/false: TRUE
  • Double damage won’t trigger if you start second and opponent cast a blade the same round as you hit: true/false: TRUE

Scion of Myth

  • Assuming you don’t have at least 3 stun blocks on yourself and start first, double damage will trigger only if you hit the same round when someone stuns your opponent (double stun like medusa is excluded): true/false TRUE
  • Double damage won’t trigger if opponent removes third stun block from you the same round as you hit: true/false TRUE
  • Double damage will trigger if someone put third stun block on Scion caster same round as you hit but cast before not after: true/false TRUE
  • Spell won’t shatter your stun shields if your opponent has active myth dispel: true/false FALSE

Scion of Life

  • Double heal will trigger if target’s health drops below 25% the same round as you heal him/her: true/false TRUE
  • Double heal won’t trigger if target’s health get back above 25% the same round as you heal him/her: true/false TRUE

Scion of Death

  • Double drain will trigger if target’s health drops bellow 33% the same round as you cast the attack: true/false: TRUE
  • Double drain will trigger if your health drops bellow 33% the same round as you cast the attack: true/false: TRUE
  • Double drain won’t trigger if target’s health get back above 33% the same round as you cast the attack: true/false: TRUE
  • Double drain won’t trigger if your health get back above 33% the same round as you cast the attack: true/false: TRUE

Scion of Balance

  • Double damage will trigger only if you have at least 6 different blades on yourself: true/false FALSE
  • Spell won’t enfeeble your blades if you or your opponent has active storm dispel: true/false FALSE
  • Double damage won’t trigger if opponent removes your blades same round as you hit: true/false TRUE
  • Double damage will trigger if you receive the sixth blade on the same round as you hit: true/false TRUE

Conclusion

My main idea – or let’s say question when starting this article was to learn more on how the calculation is done. Is it done before the round starts or can you manipulate the outcome with mid-round actions. And an answer to that is – yes you can manipulate the outcome. So pay attention when you use these spells if you start second. The enemy can still use spells that with alter the expected outcome from the mighty scion spells.
